How We Make Huntington Beach Wooden Wine Rackings Extra Special

Wooden wine racking designs can make or break a wine cellar. They’re perfect for transitional wine cellars and help offer a unique visual delight because of how versatile wood is. Take for example this transitional wine cellar project inside an upscale home in California. We were able to customize every inch of this cellar, especially the wine racking, which the client was very particular with. Continue reading this article to learn more about this home wine cellar!

How We Make Huntington Beach Wooden Wine Rackings Extra Special

Wooden Wine Racking Designed for the Perfect Reading Nook

With modern technology and innovation, you can already place your wine cellar wherever you want without adversely altering the natural aging process of the wines. For this Huntington home’s transitional wine cellar with glass panels, the owner wanted to situate it within a sitting area next to an external wall. The rule of thumb is the closer your wine cellar is to a heat source, the more insulation and cooling should be provided — which our team efficiently did.

After all the finishings were done and the wine bottles were transferred into the cellar, the resulting space was a lovely corner relaxing area where you could sip your wine comfortably and read your favorite book in any of the two lounge chairs right outside the wine cellar.

Tailored Alderwood Wine Racks Where Every Compartment is Built Differently

What makes this wine cellar unique from all the rest is the design of its wine cellar rack. It’s a large, custom-made, U-shaped wine shelf that stands from floor to ceiling. While some wine racks are horizontal — no curved sides, corners, or edges — our team opted to give the rack more dimension, so it feels more inviting.

The base of this wooden wine racking vertical shelves is made of acrylic LED light panels.

The Variety and Finish of Wood Matters

Since wooden wine racks or wooden furniture, in general, are very chunky, the condition of the wood is very apparent all the time. Hence, it is important to choose a variety of wood that looks good and stays good for a long time, even in humid conditions inside a wine cellar.

The most common wood species used in making wine cellar racks include Mahogany, Alder, Pine, Maple, Walnut, Oak, Redwood, and Cedar. Each variety differs in grain size, pattern, and ability to absorb/retain stain. So, selecting the right wood for your rack will depend on the look you want to achieve for your wine cellar.

Our air conditioning duct was right above the curved corners of your wooden wine racking.

For this Huntington Beach wine closet, we went for Alder wood and stained it with a grey color. Alderwood is a softer hardwood that’s lightweight yet strong. That’s why it’s perfect for creating custom wine racks with curved corners and sides. This variety also accepts stains really well, so it’s great if you have a particular look or finish in mind.

Fascinating Wooden Wine Racking Design

Wine bottles can be displayed in several positions. These include cork forward, horizontal label forward, inclined label forward, and vertical. If your priority in a wine cellar is to maximize stocking capacity,  it may be best to stick to one or two racking configurations. However, if you want to add flair to your wine racking and invest in its overall look, then mixing and matching different compartment styles will serve you best.

For this wine rack, if you split it in half, each side is a mirror image of the other. If we dissect one half, you’ll find a column built with four vertical shelves and two rows of high-reveal racks near the glass panels. All the vertical shelves in this wine cellar are built with Acrylic L.E.D Boards that illuminate the bottles beautifully. If you browse through our gallery, you’ll see that the owner placed several types of liquor on his vertical shelves, including vodka, gin, and so on.

The 2nd column consists of standard 750 racks and two rows of high-reveal racks again. The 3rd column starts with cubbies at the bottom, followed by standard 750 compartments, then high reveal racks, and finally triple-deep horizontal racks for magnums at the top. Finally, the central column consists of a diamond bin at the bottom, followed by a stylish decanting table, and then the triple-deep horizontal magnum racks at the top.

We built a marble countertop for the decanting table and attached a few stemware racks on top where the wine glasses could hang. We then adorned the backdrop of the decanting table with an artistic masterpiece that the owners had brought in from Napa Valley.

A Transitional Wine Cellar with a Systematic Inventory System

It may not seem very obvious, but this transitional wine cellar could hold a total of 450 wine bottles! That’s already a good deal considering the size of the space. What’s similarly unique about this wine cellar as well are the labels that the client requested to embed onto the wine racks. If you look closely at the racks, there are letters that run from left to right and numbers that run from top to bottom. This helps the owners quickly identify which wines have run out or which bottles need to be replaced. This is a wine racking system that’s as efficient as the cellar’s ducted split-system cooling unit!

If you have a large wine collection in Huntington Beach, an inventory system is important because it will help you locate your wines a lot faster and make it easier for you to calculate the value of your collection. There are many ways to organize a wine collection. You can group them by type of wine or spirit, by origination, by size,  by preference, by age, and more! We can also connect you with a wine connoisseur who specializes in wine inventories so you can set up a system that suits your style.  It’s the unparalleled convenience that makes such an investment so worth it!
