Custom Wine Cellars designed to serve the world's thirst for true taste
Wine Rack Design: What You Must Know About Rack Openings and Styles
Wine Rack Design for Various Bottle Sizes
When choosing a design for your wine rack system, it is best to work with a manufacturer who offers wine racks with openings for various bottle sizes and stylish designs as well. Doing so will ensure that your wine rack openings fit all of the bottles in your collection and meet your aesthetic requirements. At Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, we manufacture wine racks according to the bottle sizes of each client.
Wine Rack Openings: Designing Wine Racks for Various Bottles Sizes
We are often asked by our clients for different types of bottle opening sizes when designing and building custom wine cellars. While “anything is possible” in reality, there are several standard -sized openings that we normally work with. We say anything is possible because the “custom” in custom wine cellars means exactly that, everything is made custom.
All of the sizes apply equally to kit wine racks, all of which are available in pre-made kits that you can easily assemble yourself. In custom wine cellar design, we take these standard sizes and create unique configurations that fit the requirements of individual client’s storage and display preferences. We call our wine rack openings split, magnum, 750 ml, double magnum, champagne, and diamond bins.
Wine Rack Opening for Split and Standard Bottles
The smaller wine rack opening is intended for split bottles. It measures 3 inches X 3 inches. The standard wine rack opening, which is also called the universal opening, can fit 750 ml bottles. It measures 3.75 inches X 3.75 inches and is typically used in residential and commercial applications.
Wine Rack Opening for Large Format Bottles

If you have Dom Perignon or any champagne bottle in your collection, we will create a Champagne custom standard size opening, measuring 4.75 inches x 4.75 inches.
Our Magnum wine rack opening measures 4.5 inches x 4.5 inches and is ideal for 1.5-liter bottles. We also have a Double Magnum wine rack opening for larger bottles. It measures 5.5 inches x 5.5 inches. Our diamond bin opening, which measures 13 inches x 13 inches, is intended for housing a case or 12 bottles.

Single Wine Storage Racks
Custom Wine Cellar Design with Racking Styles
Single wine storage racks are common in a wine cellar environment. You will see them in almost all wine cellars. You may opt to add a display row to showcase some of your bottles pitched at an angle.
Diamond Wine Bins
Our diamond bin wine rack can store more than 200 bottles, making it a more cost-effective option than individual wine racks. It is ideal for large format bottles and stores wines in bulk, one on top of each other. Diamond bins are a great way to organize wines and monitor wines conveniently. You may choose between solid or lattice style diamond bins.
Rectangular Wine Bins and X-Cube Wine Racks
Our rectangular bins are intended for storing bottles horizontally, with the labels facing out. They are 26 feet wide and can store more than 150 bottles. You may opt for a lattice or solid-style wine bin.
Our X-Cube wine racks can store more than 132 bottles and are 24 3/16 inches wide. They are also ideal for bulk storage of large format and standard bottles.
Arch with a Tabletop
Adding a combination of arch and tabletop is one way to add elegance to your wine cellar. It can store more than a hundred bottles. The tabletop provides a storage place for a few bottles that are ready for consumption and for serving wines. Below the tabletop are diamond bins for various bottle sizes.
Solid Quarter Round Display Racks
Our solid quarter-round display rack is used as the finishing touch to a wine cellar. It is typically used as the end rack. It can store standard bottles vertically. However, if you have larger bottles, we can adjust the shelving to fit your needs.
