Traditional Home Wine Cellar
Why do many wine collectors still love classic style interiors? There are many reasons why traditional wine cellars are in-demand in wine room construction. We have had many clients who chose traditional over modern design. Find out why and see some of our completed wine cellars with timeless beauty.
What You Must Know About Traditional Wine Cellar Design
When choosing a design for your home wine cellar, it is crucial to consider important factors. Your design must suit your space, the size of your collection, existing décor of your space, aesthetic needs, and budget.
At Coastal Custom Home Wine Cellars, we have a keen attention to details. We will gather all the relevant information to help us determine the best design for your traditional wine cellar. A traditional wine cellar consists of intricate and architectural details, ornate accents, and curved lines that create a vintage appeal. We often incorporate wood wine racks and other features that add a classic accent to wine rooms.
Elegant Wood Wine Racks for Aesthetically Pleasing Home Wine Cellars
Wood wine cellar racks have Earth tones that add warmth and a relaxing ambiance in a home wine cellar. At Coastal Custom Wine Cellars, we use high quality and beautiful wood species for manufacturing wood wine racks for a traditional home wine cellar.
We use Mahogany, Redwood, Pine, and Alder for our wood wine racks. These wood species are known for their ability to withstand extreme changes in temperatures and humidity levels. They are also highly resistant to shrinking, mold, and warping, making them ideal for humid conditions.
Other Stylish Features That We Recommend for Your Traditional Home Wine Cellar
Some of the common features that we include in our client’s traditional wine cellar design are wall sconces, chandeliers, stonework, wine barrel art, wine barrel tabletop, wine barrel flooring, and brick walls. These accents can create a focal point in your home wine cellar and enhance its classic appeal. We also recommend solid wood wine cellar doors or wood with an operable wrought iron grill for building traditional wine rooms.

Turning a Small Space in New Jersey into a Traditional Home Wine Cellar with Redwood Wine Racks
Premium Redwood Wine Racks Add Elegance to this Traditional Wine Cellar
In this project, the client sought our help in transforming a small space in their home into a traditional custom wine cellar without going beyond their budget. The small space did not stop us from creating a gorgeous and efficient wine cellar design.
The homeowners chose Premium Redwood for their wine racks. They wanted their racking to be unfinished, so we did not apply lacquer or paint on the wood. Premium Redwood is famous for developing a deeper and richer color over time.
Since the space was limited, we had to create a design that would maximize the storage capacity of the wine room. We utilized only the left and back walls to provide ample amount of space on the right side.

On the bottom section of the right wall, we incorporated lattice diamond bins, which were intended for large format and odd-shaped bottles, and bulk storage. The bottles are stored on top of each other. We used 1-inch x 2-inch lattice wood slats instead of solid wood for the diamond bins because it is more affordable, and we had to stay within the budget.
The middle section consists of a display row that pitches the bottles at a 15-degree angle to keep the cork moist while highlighting some of the client’s favorite wines. We added individual wine storage slots in the top section to accommodate the standard bottles in the client’s collection. On the back wall, you will find more wine rack opening for individual bottles. Above them is a small square opening with a tabletop where the owners can decant, serve, and drink their favorite wines. The arched ceiling provided a space for a few wood cases.
The family chose Premium Redwood for their wine cellar racks. This type of wood is durable, affordable, and can withstand high humidity. It exhibits white, pinkish, reddish, and brownish tones. We left the wine cellar racks unfinished because the wood’s color develops over time.

In this particular project, we combined various bottle configurations to create a racking system that would suit the technical and aesthetic requirements of the client. We utilized Premium Mahogany, one of the most sought-after wood species for building traditional wine cellars. We also left the wood unfinished because it is naturally attractive.
On the back wall, we installed solid diamond bins with a tabletop at the bottom section. The middle and top racking consist of a display row and individual wine cellar racks. We also included diamond bins, horizontal display rows, and a quarter round display on the left wall.
