Wine Cellars of the Future: 3 Cable Wine Racking Designs

A wine cellar with cable wine racking design is regarded as a next-level wine cellar that exudes luxury and ingenuity.  It’s a daring choice that seems risky because the cables, even if they are metal, are relatively thin and easily swayed. However, with the magic of technology and human creativity, showcasing your Pinots, Cabernets, Chardonnays, Rieslings, and other types of wines in suspended cables are now possible and worth your investment. Take it from an experienced wine cellar designer and builder who has successfully completed dozens of home and commercial wine cellars! From rustic wine cellars to transitional, cable, and Tuscan-inspired, he has done them all!

In this article, we’ll show you three of the cable wine-racking designs an expert conceptualized and installed with his team, and some important points to remember if you want to construct a similar type of wine cellar on your property!

A Fully Glass-Enclosed Wine Cellar With Cable Wine Display Racks

First up is a small glass wine closet built in the center of a living room. The owner’s wine collection was showcased using cable wine racks, enclosed in an entirely glass-enclosed wine cellar. What’s unique about this

The cable wine racking plan here was matched to the design of the surrounding room.

This cable wine rack was arranged in such a way that the bottles are displayed in a label-forward manner.

wine closet is that instead of anchoring the cable tension sets into custom-built soffits, both ends of the cable (top and bottom) were anchored onto 3/4-inch LED light panels specially manufactured by the Wine Cellar Designers Group. To further support the cable racks, plywood was installed before the light panels. Instead of being lit up from the sides, this wine collection was lit up from the top and the bottom. In total, this small wine closet could accommodate 86 wine bottles and you can view each of them from all three sides of the cellar!

Cable Wine Racking Display in an Ultra-Modern Home Wine Cellar

Another wine cellar we’re very proud about is this glass-themed walk-in  modern wine cellar inside an industrial-style home. A very futuristic wine cellar is the more accurate definition of this wine cellar and it features modern materials including cable wine racks, frameless glass panels, polished cement floors, and state-of-the-art acrylic LED light walls.  Since this home was located in a very hot area, we had to set-up adequate insulation and ran the line set for the cooling system before finishing up the main wall. Next, they went on to customize the soffit, built it using plywood, and drilled holes into it to prepare it for the cable tension sets.

Minimalistic Cable Wine Racking Display Design

Cable wine rack displays are great for modern minimalist wine cellars.

While you can have your cable wine racks assembled in the factory and receive them fully ready to use, the cable racks in this project were assembled on site. You can order them per piece or per part and install them yourself. However, we do recommend you consult with a wine cellar specialist, especially when you build the soffit. The soffit is a very crucial element to the cable wine racks don’t fall, snap, or swing, putting the wine collection at risk.

A Salon Cable Wine Display With Alabaster LED Light Panels

Lastly, check out this wine cellar design implemented inside a posh lounge area of a luxury home. This cellar was divided into different sections, each having its own door. All the sections were populated with cable wine racks, including the topmost sections. Since the wine cellar was relatively tall, a rolling library ladder was also installed so the owner could grab a bottle from the top storage compartments.

You’ve already seen from the two previous projects how the cable wine racks look against a clear glass backdrop and an acrylic backdrop. In this third project, you’ll notice that the wine cellar walls are lined with luxurious-looking alabaster panels. LED lights were still installed on the main wall, but instead of using white acrylic to conceal the bulbs, they used alabaster sheets to diffuse the light in a very classy way. This made the cable sets and wine collections pop-out more, making it a very impressive wine cellar project.
